MUZZLES

What are your muzzles made out of?

All of our muzzles are made from Biothane, which is a flexible, synthetic material commonly used in the manufacturing of dog collars and leads.

It is known for its durability and waterproof properties.

Biothane is resistant to odor and bacteria, ensuring hygiene for your pet. It is also slightly flexible to ensure comfort for your
dog.

Are your muzzles bite proof?

There is currently no industry standard for what is considered “bite-proof”, nor is there a standard test for this. For this reason, we and other muzzle companies cannot claim that our muzzles are “bite-proof”.

However, Biothane muzzles have been used by dogs for many years and we believe you should assess your own dogs needs when deciding whether our muzzles would be suitable for your dog. Things such as a dog’s size or temperament can play a big part in determining whether a muzzle is suitable for them.

Do your muzzles comply with Breed Specific Legislation (BSL)?

If your dog is registered as exempt, the certificate will state that the muzzle should be "sufficient to prevent it biting". There is currently no guidance from DEFRA on what this means.

Biothane muzzles have been used by dogs for many years and most experts agree that they meet this requirement, while some argue that only metal muzzles are truly "bite-proof".

There are already many non-metal muzzles on the market (e.g. Baskerville), all recommended by Dog Legislation Officers (DLOs).

As far as we understand, provided that your dog is not a serious bite risk, our muzzles would be adequate to comply with BSL.

Given that the material used is slightly flexible, we do however ask you to pass your own judgement on whether our muzzles would be suitable for your dogs temperament.

Rest assured that our muzzles do also come as adjustable in three areas, to help with getting that perfect fit.

If you are however not happy with the fit of your dog’s muzzle, we do provide an alterations service.

How do I adjust my muzzle?

Please refer to our adjustment guide.

We would love to see a photo of your dog in their muzzle, so please do send across and we can also offer any adjustment advice. Your furry friend may also get a feature on your social media!

I have lost a screw from my muzzle, what should I do?

We do not expect you to lose any screws, but because we cannot secure the adjustable fixings, you may find that after prolonged wear, they may become loose - That’s why you will have received spare screws with your muzzle, just in case.

We therefore ask you to keep an eye on your muzzle after each wear to check for loose screws.

If you have a larger or more active dog, you may find the screws become loose more frequently. Once you’re happy with the adjustments you have made, we would recommend using thread locker or superglue to permanently hold the adjustable screws in place.
